DECEMBER
I'm saddened by the loss of my XM buddy Noot McClain who passed away on Dec 3rd. Noot became a celebrity around the country from his on air visits with Eddie Kilroy/Willies Place every morning. I don't think either one of us realized how much he helped get my name out to the public by talking about me on the radio. I'm grateful for that but I'm thankful I got to know the man. He was something else! They say that you can find treaures in the most unlikely places and I had no idea that we would become the best of friends when we met. We laughed, we argued, we picked on each other and enjoyed every minute of it! I'd take my guitar and go play for him @ the
No Tab Bar or the feed store. People have asked me if Noot is for real, they thought he
was a character on the radio. He was a good man and yes he was the Real Deal.... |

NOVEMBER
I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a safe trip if you're traveling the highways. We spend Thanksgiving at my sisters and like everyone else eat way too much. Don't forget the best part....the pie!
I've been listening to alot of demos and there are some great songs out there. It's really tough to decide which songs to keep or drop when you have so many to choose from. We've been in the studio recording and I'm really getting excited about the new project. I'm keeping it country!
OCTOBER
Happy Fall ya'll!
This is my favorite time of year....when all the leaves start changing and it begins to cool off (unless you live in Texas!) I really enjoyed my trip to Iowa and jamming with banjo extraordinaire Bobby Atkins and a great young talent Seth Mulder. We met for the 1st time @ the festival & the three of us played like we had been playing together for years! It was just magic! We played for each others shows, hung out together and had the best time. Look forward to picking with those boys again. Great to visit with Bobby G. Ricewho I hadn't seen him in years. Also enjoyed meeting Tommy Horton, great entertainer!
I went on my 1st cruise and had an absolute blast...that is the way to vacation!
But my vacation is over and it's time to get back to work.
SEPTEMBER
Shucking corn and singing a song....Aug 30th - Sept 1st
Hi everybody....dropping by to personally say hello and I hope everyone has
a safe Labor Day Weekend.
I'll be attending the 32nd National Olde-Time Country
Bluegrass Festival in Missouri Valley, Iowa right in the middle of the cornfields!
It's a 7 day festival and thousands of people go through there. If you're in the area,
come join us! Jim Ed Brown, Charlie McCoy, Bobby G. Rice, Red Steagall and
others will be there. Hope to make some new fans and should be great fun! My
uncle and cousins are coming over from Nebraska and I'm really looking forward to
visiting with family while I'm there.
I've got a new single out. It's a remake of Carl Smith's "Before I Met You". This
was one of the songs that
XM Radio/Willies Place chose to play on their station.
I'm very grateful for that and I hope you like it too! We're working away on the new
CD. I think we have some great songs and there'll be some honkytonkin going on!
Take care all and thanks for supporting country music!
AUGUST
And the winner is......
Liz Talley was voted Female Artist of the Year in the Western Swing Category at the Academy of Western Artists Awards last week in Garland, Texas. The petite Texan gained tremendous attention worldwide with her debut single "Texas in Your Swing". Accepting the award Liz thanked Leona Williams for helping her finish the song that started her career, the pickers for their great talent and radio for a giving me a chance to be heard...and added "I ain't done yet!" With a new single to be released in September and a new CD in the works, I think she's just getting started!
Other news...Liz's 19 year old son has enrolled in the Delta Academy to become a commercial pilot. "How cool is that to have a pilot in the family?" Liz says. "He has dreamed of flying since he was little and I encourage him to follow his dream and moms fly free of course!" haha

Liz Talley's version of "Close Up the Honkytonks" is still burning up the airwaves. The song has been hanging in the Top 10 of the ECMA charts for 13 weeks now! We've also had some great airplay in the states and we appreciate the stations that support real country music!
Other news....Liz and hubby have bought property outside of Houston and have been busy clearing land. "It is so awesome to hang out by the campfire and look up at the stars. I'm loving it!" says the singer.

Liz Talley is among the pantheon of those wonderful artists from Texas who consistently produce the best of the real deal. All the tracks on her CD, "Road To You," are aces, and she has now released a new single, covering the classic, "Close Up The Honky Tonks." I can't wait to start playing it! Thank you, Liz, for always coming up with great songs and doing them so well. I reckon our audiences love you as much as we do at Heartland Public Radio!

A new single and a new cd in the works.....
That little gal from Texas won't be closing down the honkytonks anytime soon. Liz Talley has just released a new single and has been in the studio this week working on a new project. Her version of "Close up the Honkytonks" is getting some great airplay and has already received rave reviews from over 100 radio/media folks in the European market. This girl knows how to honkytonk and the fans like it!
When asked what listeners can expect from the new CD...Liz replies "I've put alot of thought in this and I contacted songwriters that I admire
and felt we had something in common musically, similar styles. With
songs from Becky Hobbs, Melba Montgomery and Leona Williams you
can bet we'll be honking with some real country music! We're finishing
up a wonderful song that Becky wrote called "Reading Mamas Bible" that
I hope to have out for Mothers Day"
MARCH
It's Rodeo Time in Houston! Yeehaw!!
Lots of cowboys and cowgirls have come to the big city to compete in the world's largest rodeo for the next 3 weeks. Theres alot of excitement in town with cookoffs and parties and we've got a busy month ahead with several rodeo events.
Opened for John Conlee at the Briscoe Opera House in Uvalde, TX along with 16 year old Trey Wilson and the Blackland Farmer Frankie Miller. John & his band were great to work with and they put on 2 great shows. Trey is an awesome little singer and you'll be hearing more from him in the future. I think the entertainers had as much fun as the people sitting in the seats! I know I did...
My new single "Close up the Honkytonks" debuted @ #7 on Hotdisc out of Scotland. Once a honkytonker always a honkytonker! I just love those shuffles with a fiddle and a steel guitar. My last single Ready for Love is sitting at the #4 spot on the ECMA charts. I appreciate everyone out there playing my music!
FEBRUARY
Just back from the Country Music Messe in Berlin, Germany. It was cold and snowed everyday. I really enjoyed sitting in the hotel every morning drinking my coffee and watching the snow fall. Awesome! Growing up in Houston, I haven't seen much snow in my lifetime.
I had a great time visiting with the dj's that play my music and meeting so many fans I didn't know I had! I did 2 shows with Daniel T. Coates and his great band. The crowds were phenomenal and so excited about the music.
It was a wonderful experience to meet so many people from different countries that love country music and come out to support it. Can't wait to go back!
JANUARY
Hope everyone is off to a good start in 2007!
I've been so busy trying to get back on track after the holidays, get over that awful crud that's going around, and get my son off to college. I've got a lot of irons in the fire and it's time to get back to work.
I was in Nashville last week to meet with songwriters on material for the next CD. The weather was cold & miserable! I visited with a few friends and got to spend some time with Becky Hobbs "Jones on the Jukebox". She's a great gal and we may hook up and write a song or two in the near future.
I'm going to the Country Music Messe in Berlin, Germany Feb 9th through 11th. The Messe is similar to Nashville's Fan Fair. I'm looking forward to that. Stay warm and that's all for now!
DECEMBER
December has just snuck up on me! Lots to do getting ready for the holidays. I'd like to thank everyone for dropping by the website. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas Ya'll from Texas!

Take a good country song, a steel guitar, twin fiddles and a pure country singer and you've got a winning combination. That's just what happened last week at the Academy of Western Artists Awards Show! Texas Traditionalist Liz Talley walked away with the "Classic Country Song of the Year" for "Stranger in My Arms." Producer Doug Deforest and fellow artists Todd Fritsch and Billy Joe French were on hand to support their friend.
"I knew the 1st time I heard the demo, that song was meant for me and I've held on to it ´til the time was right" says Liz. It's plain to see this girl knows how to pick a good song and what works for her. She was the only artist of the evening nominated in four categories which was quite an accomplishment for the newcomer. About the big win...Liz says "I was thrilled to be nominated and it was really something to win! I appreciate everyone in radio that gives me the chance to be heard."

We have been working real hard this month on radio promotions here in the states with radio tours, press releases, etc...trying to get the word out and get some new listeners. Rockabilly Queen Gives Thumbs Up to Rockabilly Baby! With all the excitement on the airwaves over Liz Talley's new single "Rockabilly Baby" one can't help but think of the Queen of Rockabilly.Wanda Jackson. "It's a great feeling when other artists have good things to say about your work," says the Texas singer. The Rockabilly Queen has given Liz the thumbs up on her Rockabilly song. "I think it's great! She delivers the song with a brassy unstoppable attitude. Love it!" says Wanda. The song came about after Liz went to see Wanda's show at a club in Houston, Texas. Caught up in the excitement, Liz left there with a few lines and a Rockabilly beat! Along with good friend Don Lacy, they wrote themselves a hot little Rockabilly tune. |
According to Wanda, "When I first met Liz at an Opry show in Texas, we just hit it off right away. What a talent! She plays drums, guitar, sings, and now through her CD, I've learned she writes great songs and sings the fire out of them! She's a hard worker and I'm excited about all the airplay she's been getting. I'm proud of what she's doing in country music and I'm expecting a great future for my little friend from Texas!"
When asked about being compared recently to an early Wanda Jackson, Liz replies "That's a wonderful compliment that I'm proud of. I guess it's the Rockabilly song that's got people talking. I've got my own style and I just jump out there and have fun. Hopefully, the crowd will have a good time too! Wanda was the first professional entertainer I ever worked with. She has been a major influence for me on a personal and professional level."
